ARES/ARRL Membership

  • Meeting with Jeff Beals, Southern Florida Section Manager
  • Looking at either February 19th or February 24th
  • Invitation for Jeff Beals to attend future meeting
  • February 17th or March 17th meeting


Junior Orange Bowl Parade follow up

  • No major events
  • Trailer Net Control Worked
  • Can we get Cable TV coverage in trailer to facilitate parade progress?
  • FRS radios used by parade officials DID NOT WORK!

Liability Coverage during events

  • Covered by City if we are involved in a City function or activation by City

City Liason

  • No news – hopefully will be under Fire Department – Chief Cook.

New Business

Station Callsign

  • Michael has applied for callsign K4CGR for the RACES station. Unfortunately, Vanity Callsigns are in a holding pattern right now because FCC has some computer program problems.

Testing Discussion

  • Latest No Morse Code Date – February 23rd
  • Want to have a VE testing team within RACES team.
  • Michael is stocked VE. Need more people with ARRL VE credentials

Continuing Education – Online FEMA Courses

  • All Coral Gables ARES/RACES team Officers now have IS 100, 200, 700, and 800 completed. Congratulations!
  • All Active Members of the Coral Gables ARES/RACES team must have IS 100 and 700 completed by January 1st. IS 200 and 800 are optional, but are highly encouraged.
  • When you receive your certificate, please make copy and give to Michael for placement in your file.
  • Members may take as many of the online FEMA courses as they wish beyond the required ones for membership. All of the courses are free and easily reached through the above website addresses.

  • January 28, 2007 – Miami Marathon – Ben Nemser made presentation
  • Felipe, Art, and Michael all worked this event. Don Morris was manning the Weather Station due to the poor weather conditions experienced the day of the race.
  • February 3, 2007 @ 9:00 a.m. – ARPSC Meeting – Piccadilly Cafeteria – Flagler and 83rd.
